Therapeutic massage
Therapeutic massage is a hands-on therapy in which muscles and other soft tissues of the body are manipulated in different ways to improve the health of those tissues and the well being of the body in general. Therapeutic massage can help in a wide variety of conditions including stress, headaches, muscular tension, back pain, allergies, depression and digestive disorders.
Massage relieves physical tension, fear and anxiety and is a very positive, relaxing experience for the body.
Massage can be gentle or firm but in general is not as deep as a sports massage. There are a few contraindications for massage and our therapist is careful to ask some screening questions at the first consultation.
Sports massage
Sports massage can be stimulating or relaxing. A constant build up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses in the joints, ligaments and tendons as well as in the muscles themselves. These muscle imbalances can cause discomfort and impede performance in sport. The sports masseur can detect variations in the soft tissues and then use specific techniques to release those areas and make the tissues more supple. Sports massage can be used to prepare the muscles for a sporting event and afterwards to relieve the build up of waste products within the muscles, cutting down on soreness felt afterwards.
Our sports masseur is experienced in dealing with athletes - whether it be in preparation for a marathon or triathlon or simply to get you through the rigours of your Sunday league footie matches - she is fully trained for the job in hand!
