Merran Barber BSc (Physio) MCSP

Merran graduated from Cumberland College of Health Sciences (University of Sydney) with her Physiotherapy degree in 1981.

She moved to the U.K. in 1985 and worked in both the NHS and the private sector before specialising in Occupational Health and Ergonomics nearly 10 years ago.

For many of these years Merran worked at the BBC within their in-house Occupational Health Department. Her experience there covered not only clinical treatment and occupational rehabilitation but included an extended scope role involving workplace assessments, ergonomics input to office and specialist technical design, and collaborative work with BBC Procurement on furniture and product selection. Additionally, she developed and presented talks and workshops for staff and departments on a wide range of topics including posture, lifting and stress management, and helped the BBC develop policies and processes for assessing and managing workplace and manual handling risks, to comply with their legal duties.

Merran is very much looking forward to setting up the new Ergonomics service for Physio on the River and will combine this with a similar role for a City-based medical practice, Finsbury Healthcare, and a teaching role at the London Metropolitan University on the MA Design Research for Disability course.
