Louisa Collyns

Louisa began dancing classes at the age of two and a half, but by the age of 10, both her knees were injured and she was forced to give up all physical activity for a couple of years.

After studying political science at the University of Manchester, Louisa spent six years working in Australia, South America and the Caribbean, where she worked as a Scuba Diving instructor and translator. It was in Colombia, where she lived for three years, that Louisa discovered Pilates, which helped her to rehabilitate from a neck injury caused by scuba diving, and also helped to strengthen her knees many years after her original injury. She decided to return to London to train as a Pilates instructor with Body Control Pilates and has been teaching Pilates full-time for three years. She has comprehensive studio and mat training and has specialised in pre- and post-natal Pilates with Carolyne Anthony from the Centre for Women’s Fitness. She attends regular seminars and workshops to further her education in Pilates

Louisa believes that Pilates is for anyone and everyone: for those with restricted mobility and for athletes; for the young and the elderly; and for anyone that wants balance in their lives and bodies. She feels that being in touch with our bodies, strengthening them from within, and moving with ease and flow, will produce an important sense of well-being that is often lacking in our busy lives.
